Many New Zealanders know Ray Woolf for his television appearances and as a jazz singer. But during the 1960s Ray was one of the country’s top rockers. Now, a collection has just been released making those iconic recordings available for the first time on CD.
Also, a 7 inch single is being released today of a song Ray and The Avengers recorded in 1967, but, until now, has been previously unreleased. In conjunction with these two releases Ray Woolf has teamed up with a young band who call themselves Half Casts. They will perform many of Ray’s finest rockers tonight at the Point Chev RSA on Great North Road in Auckland and again on Thursday at the Golden Dawn in Ponsonby. Ray Woolf and Half Casts got together at The 13th Floor to run through Ray’s songs, most of which Ray has not performed since the 1960s. Here is a video clip of Ray Woolf and Half Casts playing All Night Worker, originally recorded back in 1965.
