R.I.P. Ritchie Havens

Ritchie HavensWe’ve lost another one. Folk singer Ritchie Havens has died at the age of 72 from a heart attack. Havens’ biggest moment in the spotlight came when he opened the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in August of 1969. His biggest hit was a cover of George Harrison’s Here Comes The Sun, although he has a long and diverse catalogue that dates back from 1965 to the present.

ChrissyAmphlett3Christina Amphlett, charismatic front-woman for Australia rockers The Divinyls has passed away at age 53. Chrissy was truly a one-of-a-kind performer known for her manic stage antics and intense persona. She had been battling multiple sclerosis since 2007.

Guitarist Alvin Lee of Ten Years After has died at the age of 68. Ten Years After cemented their postition as one of England’s top blues bands with their memorable performance at 1969′s Woodstock Music & Arts Festival. Their biggest hit was 1971′s I’d Love To Change The World, written by Lee.

The 13th Floor is sad to learn that Troggs vocalist Reg Presley has passed away after a battle with cancer. Presley possessed one of the most menacing voices in rock & roll and can be heard on hits like Love Is All Around, With A Girl Like You and, of course, Wild Thing.
