Welcome Liz Barry Close To Home

The 13th Floor is thrilled to welcome Liz Barry and her exclusive new programme Close To Home. Liz has made a reputation over the years as a supporter of New Zealand music. So here she is with first of a new series, doing what she does best.

The chance to tip my toes back into musical waters again and play DJ has certainly been a special one – so thanks Marty for giving me the chance. Eight years hosting my own weekly NZ music show each Saturday afternoon on public radio and then doing podcasts, means I have a  massive range of homegrown music to choose from, but despite that, doing the actual choosing is pretty hard coz there is so much I love! I still keep in ear out for new Kiwi music & Part 1 of of Close to Home features some of my favourite NZ tunes, plus a couple of newer debut’s from Welly dub rockers Stonerange & singer/songwriter Steph Casey.  The second part, well – it’s full of surprises really! I often go on roadtrips - mostly between Wellington and Taupo and having good sounds for theroad is essential! In the wee small hours of the morning I’ve discovered some very tasty tracks in the free download section of Last FM, so it’s some of these personal faves I’m sharing with you in Part 2.  Hope you enjoy my selection of good grooves, tasty beats and much more here in Close to Home Music.

    Hi Liz
I was so excited to discover that you’d played one of my songs on your “Close to Home” show. Thank you! That was a real buzz!
It’s a great show and I’ve discovered some brilliant Kiwi sounds through it. What a fantastic resource for NZ music lovers. You must really enjoy putting it together.
I’ve been playing live every week of late and have been recording new demos. I hope to do some more professional recordings soon, when I’ve got some pesos together.
Looking forward to your next show.
    Take care and thanks again!
    Steph Casey
