** Former Velvets front man offers up a set of obscure tunes
Director: Thierry Amsaliem
Lou Reed spent 2000 touring in support of his album, Ecstas - not one of the high points of his career. His set list consisted of new tunes with just Perfect Day and Dirty Blvd from his better-known songs.
With his eyes fixed on a monitor at his feet, Reed seems as unfamiliar with the material as the audience. Not particularly flamboyant in the best of times, this makes for a static and passion-free concert.
Reed’s band, including guitarist Mike Rathke, bass player Fernando Saunders and drummer Tony Smith are a joy to watch and listen to as they add some much-needed fire to Reed’s unmemorable material.
