At first it looked like it would be a sparse crowd that witnessed the show by LA’s Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti at The Kings Arms on Tuesday night. Perhaps it was that uneven set at Laneway last year that kept folks away. But as openers Poor You Poor Me got things going, the crowd thickened up and by the time Ariel and his crew took the stage, their was a decent-sized audience ready to hear him and his pop/glitter/funk. Ariel blasted through a set that featured old favourites (Round And Round) and new, songs…some so new the singer had to clutch on to pieces of paper to read the lyrics.
The crowd was tentative at first, but Ariel got them going, and by the end, it was a mutual love-fest. Even after the house lights were lit and recorded music was being played, Ariel and the band returned for one more tune, a rocking version of Life In LA, before finally calling it quits.
