New Jersey indie-rockers Real Estate are the flavour of the month among hipsters. They brought their brand of jangly dream-pop (or is it dreamy jangle-pop) to The Kings Arms on Thursday night to an eager crowd. The band mixed tunes from both of their albums in an hour-long set whose highlights included Pool Swimmers, from their 2009 self-titled debut and current hit, It’s Real, from Days.
The band wrapped up its 13-song set with All The Same from Days, a title that, unfortunately sums what what the band does. They are indeed good at that hazy, jangly pop thing, but seem limited. When they stretched out a bit on All The Same, it only highlighted their sonic limitations. The quartet returned to perform Beach Comber, from the first album, before calling it a night.
It was a pleasant evening of music, but nothing really happened on stage to get the pulse racing.
