13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Benee – Want Me Back

19-year-old Auckland sensation Benee releases her newest single, Want Me Back.

Her highly anticipated debut EP, Fire On Marzz will be here on June 28th (She’ll be headlining a show at The Powerstation on the same day). In the meantime, groove to the smooth sounds of Want Me Back.

Here’s the record company blurb with details:

Hailing from the suburbs of Auckland, 19-year-old indie pop artist BENEE returns with her latest single “Want Me Back”. Coming off the heels of her Gold-Certified hit “Soaked” and viral hit “Evil Spider,” the up and coming singer and songwriter also announces her upcoming debut EP FIRE ON MARZZ set for release on June 28th.

On “Want Me Back BENEE says, “Want Me Back was freestyled in a recent studio session. I just improvised and think the result is more vulnerable and different to the rest of the songs on the FIRE ON MARZZ EP. It’s definitely tops of the BENEE songs for me right now.”

BENEE has emerged as New Zealand’s artist to watch with her Platinum-Certified hit “Soaked,” which quickly climbed Spotify’s Viral Charts, accumulated nearly 20 million streams to date, charted on Australia’s Triple J radio’s Hottest 100 of 2018 and held the number one spot on New Zealand’s Shazam Top 100 for two months, not to mention achieved Gold Certification in New Zealand and Australia. With endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats1 radio, BENEE went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show—opening for longtime role model Lily Allen—in a matter of months. Not to mention, her song “Evil Spider” has already hit nearly 2 million streams and counting!

In support of “Want Me Back” and her upcoming debut EP, BENEE will be performing at Auckland’s Powerstation on June 28th. Tickets are available now HERE.

ABOUT BENEE:

Vi·sion·ar·y – as defined by Google – is a (noun) person with original ideas who plans the future with imagination or wisdom. With both traits in abundance well beyond her 19 years, New Zealand’s BENEE redefines the word. Carving out a space between indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern “pop music” to create a sonic landscape all her own. Growing up in suburban Auckland, New Zealand among a community of creatives, BENEE was immersed in the arts from a young age, and after releasing a series of self-released GarageBand covers on SoundCloud, she was soon writing and recording at Golden Age Studio with producer Josh Fountain in her senior year of high school. Just two weeks after enrolling in university, BENEE dropped out with a now unstoppable and feverish conviction to pursue music full-time. After releasing her breakout single “Soaked” in 2018, what she refers to as her ‘BENEEvision’— or “the idea that all of my music, visuals and content contribute to a greater artwork.”—immediately hit home.
