13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Echo Children – Just Your Luck

Its Friday again, and as usual there’s plenty of new music. Here’s a new one from Tāmaki Makaurau’s Echo Children titled Just Your Luck.

And with more details about the song and the video, here is the record company blurb:

Drummer Niamh O’Flynn takes the mic for the first time and delivers a soaring lead vocal that will leave your spine tingling. “Just Your Luck” is an indie anthem for the betrayed and broken-hearted, combining the power and vulnerability of Sharon Van Etten with a driving groove reminiscent of Grizzly Bear.

The track is being released on July 3 with a psychedelic music video created by the band’s guitarist Oliver Young, which sees the band members animated into infinite loops of colour.

The single is the second from Echo Children’s upcoming five track EP, recorded with engineer-of-the-moment Vivek Gabriel (Avantdale Bowling Club). It builds on the distinctive sound which they first showcased on their acclaimed debut EP, “This Was Our Fault” (2017). The melding of Beach Boys-style psychedelic pop harmonies with sharp alt-country songwriting has made them a favourite in Tāmaki Makaurau’s vibrant live music scene, and led to two successful tours of Aotearoa.

The first single “Flowerbeds” was released in April with an innovative, 8-bit animated video [link], after Covid-19 wiped many of the band’s original release plans. The single received glowing reviews in local media [link], and playlisted across stations in the NZ Student Radio Network. Features on AppleMusic playlists including “New Music Daily” and “Barefoot Acoustic” brought the band to new audiences, who are hotly anticipating the band’s next single
