13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Mako Road – Stranger Days
Stranger Days are indeed here. And here is Mako Road to tell us about it.
The band has just released this new track in anticipation of the release of their debut album, due out July 30th. Here’s the blurb with more:
Kiwi indie-rock four-piece MAKO ROAD have just dropped a psychedelically animated video for new single ‘Stranger Days’, the title track to their upcoming debut album which comes out July 30. Currently a band in demand, the festival favourites are taking their ‘Stranger Days’ album on tour throughout August and September, with their recently announced Australian tour dates selling out in just 90 minutes, and New Zealand tour dates selling fast. ‘Stranger Days’ video (animated by Pippa Haslem) & single out today on digital & streaming platforms.
Recent singles ‘Helicopter’, ‘Surfing On Mars’ and ‘Don’t Keep Me Waiting’ have been riding waves of popularity across sales, radio and streaming charts. Mako Road have fast become one of New Zealand’s favourite bands – the new album ‘Stranger Days’ cements the band’s reputation as the most exciting independent act on the horizon.
The long-awaited debut album ‘Stranger Days’ brilliantly captures the band’s epic indie-rock grooves and includes previous singles ‘Helicopter’, ‘Surfing on Mars’ and ‘Don’t Keep Me Waiting’. It was recorded in the renowned & secluded studio environment of Wellington’s The Surgery. The album was produced by the band members Connor Jaine and Rhian Ward, engineered by James Goldsmith (Mermaidens, Beastwars, Into Orbit) and mastered by Chris Chetland (Savage, Snoop Dogg, Lorde, Drax Project, Scribe). Album ‘Stranger Days’ will be available on vinyl and digital from July 30 – pre-order links provided below.

Mako Road’s heavy touring schedule has seen them translate their hazy summer psych grooves into an explosive live set, resulting in multiple sold-out Australasian tours, with their name appearing on festival bills including Splendour In The Grass, Electric Avenue, Sound Splash, Bay Dreams and Rhythm and Vines. They’ve also supported acts including Rudimental, L.A.B, Leisure, Shapeshifter and Ziggy Alberts.
The sky’s the limit for Mako Road band members Rhian Ward, Connor Jaine, Connor McErlich and Robbie Day – a proudly independent act making waves around the world, who originated in Christchurch. Since the release of debut EP ‘The Green Superintendent’ and subsequent EP ‘Local Safari’, both in 2018, their self-produced garage recordings have been a breath of fresh air to music fans and critics alike, earning them regular appearances at the pointy end of the independent music charts with multiple Gold and Platinum certifications. Fans have eagerly dived in on streaming sites, with over 60 million streams, 2 million YouTube views, and 30k Instagram followers.
