13th Floor Vintage Interview: Andrew Brough On Making 1997’s Bike Album.

With a tribute concert scheduled to happen this weekend at The Wine Cellar, we thought we’d dig back into the archives and share this interview with Andrew Brough recorded on the eve of the release of Bike’s Take In The Sun, back in 1997.

Andrew BroughThe 13th Floor’s Marty Duda was writing for Real Groove magazine back in the late 90s and was assigned to do a cover story about Andrew Brough’s new band Bike and their debut album, Take In The Sun.

It had been several years since Andrew left Straitjacket Fits and this was his first new music since then. As you can hear at the beginning of the recording, Andrew was not completely comfortable with being in the spotlight. But during the 30 minute conversation he opens up about his days with the Fits, the state of the NZ music scene in 1997 and his own approach to making the Bike album.

Sadly, Andrew Brough died February 2, 2020. Now, a year later a tribute show has been organized by The Roulettes’ Justin McLean, who is Andrew’s step-brother.

Among the scheduled guests are Jan Hellriegel, Charlotte Yates, Don Brough and The Roulettes.
