Someday Stories 2020: 6 Short Films by Young Filmmakers
Someday Stories 2020: Six new short films by young filmmakers will emerge post-lockdown. The collection of short sustainability-focused films that will form the fourth series of New Zealand’s Someday Stories, scheduled to be released at the end of this year, have been announced today.
Born in 2007, The Outlook for Someday is a film programme in which young filmmakers are invited to deliver work that investigates sustainability. It is built on a holistic interpretation of the idea of sustainability, covering four pou: the environment, society, culture and the economy. Someday Stories is the latest in a three-step talent development pathway for young New Zealanders that also includes the annual Someday Challenge and Someday Workshops.
In 2020, the films explore a range of themes; from sexual harassment to the housing crisis, to the dangers of nesting on a popular beach. Each film is being created by a team of emerging filmmakers, ages 24-29, who will be supported with mentorships and script consultancies from prominent film industry figures. The details of the 2020 line-up are below.
The Someday Stories team will closely work with each production to ensure filming takes place safely and within the rules set out by the New Zealand Government. The productions will be guided by the standard, protocols and toolkit which has been prepared by ScreenSafe. The standard and protocols are currently being reviewed and endorsed by WorkSafe / Mahi Haumaru.
The films will be screened later in 2020 by Stuff, Māori Television On Demand and RNZ.
Someday Stories films are produced by Connected Media Trust with support from NZ On Air, The Vista Foundation, Te Māngai Pāho and the New Zealand Film Commission in association with Stuff, Māori Television on Demand and RNZ.
