AMPED 2020 Kicks Off this Weekend with Stunning Line-up

Robert Scott (The Clean, The Bats), Nadia Reid and Shayne Carter spearhead Dunedin’s own mentoring programme for aspiring young musicians. A free initiative open to local high school students, this year is a shorter programme, but at full capacity, as 38 band members and solo artists will attend workshops run by some of the city’s best talent, and put on shows at well-known venues, with established acts to guide them through.

This year AMPED truly celebrates the city it is set in as iconic Dunedin musicians step into the tutor roles covering topics from band visuals / logos / poster with Robert Scott (The Clean, The Bats) to song writing and creativity with Nadia Reid and Shayne Carter. As well as live sound with Stephen Kilroy and making your way in the music business with Soaked Oats. Alongside a further number of music industry experts teaching areas ranging from booking and putting on shows to getting your song on the radio.

The young artists will have the opportunity to perform at one of three gigs, including two public all ages shows featuring Night Lunch and Human Susan.

AMPED has been running since 2012, beginning as the Chicks Project. A project of the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust, AMPED now consists of workshops with local and national industry professionals, and live gigs geared towards kick-starting the next generation’s careers in music.

This year AMPED is curated by Dunedin musician Craig Monk (Lars Von Trio, Heka, The Broken Heartbreakers, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra) who says “my teenage years in Dunedin were full of amazing music, made by many people who I feel blessed to call my friends now. Dunedin has a wonderful music scene, full of truly great artists, teachers, mentors, producers and audiences. I’m delighted to be helping a new generation of young artists understand something of how the business of music works, and how they can best make their way in it.”
