Watch: 13th Floor MovieTalk with Savage Composer Arli Liberman

Director Sam Kelly’s Savage is one of the most anticipated Kiwi films of the year and it opens in cinemas tomorrow.

The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda spoke to composer Arli Liberman about the music he created for the film. The soundtrack to Savage will also be released tomorrow. Here’s the record company blurb with details about Arli, who now lives in Auckland:

Arli Liberman is an Israeli-born Kiwi who has been making and composing music for a long time, having been previously a guest musician at MoMA in New York, and has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Arli has worked on composing for a number of years, and his work on Savage is his debut feature film score.

Arli’s work on the score sits very much in the same world as other film/TV scores from the likes of Rhian Sheehan & Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper, all creating stunning local work. The work on the soundtrack has taken almost a year, and features some vocals from Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots). It’s a very stunning piece of music, capturing the mood of the film, and moves between calming and tense seamlessly.
