13th Floor New Song Of The Day: The Long Ryders – Down To The Well

Welcome The Long Ryders and their new song, Down To The Well.

After a 30-year “hiatus” The Long Ryders returned last year with a fine new album, Psychedelic Country Soul. Turns out there’s more! Here’s the record company blurb:

“Down To The Well” was cut in Richmond, Virginia near guitarist Stephen McCarthy’s bohemian love pad with a few overdubs added down the phone line later on. Not even a global pandemic can stop the Long Ryders from rockin’ in the free world. “Down To The Well” is the A-side and a brand new unreleased track! It was produced by USA indie kid genius Adrian Olsen (the Dream Syndicate, Clear Cut Water, Fate & Death).

“If You Want To See Me Cry” is the B-side and an acoustic version with a unique bridge…not the version found on Psychedelic Country Soul in 2018 but a different version with added mellotron, some touches to Sid Griffin’s vocal, and a total remix which transforms it into an acoustic gem. It was produced by Ed Stasium (the Ramones, the Smithereens, Jeff Healey Band).

The Long Ryders have long been called The Founding Fathers of Alt-country as “they played and defined Americana before it was a genre” (Mojo magazine). The Long Ryders were also a key foundation stone in L.A.’s Paisley Underground, their praises having been sung by the Black Crowe’s Chris Robinson, Noel Gallagher, Lucinda Williams, and Mike Mills of REM.

Wash your hands & stay safe, please!

“Feeling the impending weight of an ill wind about to blow as the country grows more and more divided. So many have sold their soul and to what end? With a thirst for knowledge & a desire for reconciliation I’m going Down to the Well.” – Stephen McCarthy, the Long Ryders
