New Song Of The Day: SPAWTS – Headroom

A good Waitangi day to you! Appropriately enough we have new Kiwi music in the form of SPAWTS and their single Headroom.

Here’s to a relaxing weekend and here’s a suggestion for part of your soundtrack. Need to know more about Auckland band SPAWTS? Check out the record company blurb:

SPAWTS is an alternative band with post-punk, indie-rock and garage influences from Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, New Zealand. Mixing their own pop sensibilities and sonic tangents, SPAWTS is led by Kieran Ormandy (Guitar and Vocals) and Jamie Hannah (Drums) and Sam Austin (Guitar), and joined live by Jake Love (Bass).

“Headroom” sees Spawts return with a laid back rhythmic offering, decorated with swelling guitars & hypnotic melodies. The story follows our protagonist who wants answers, mistakenly leaving solid ground for the abyss. Before they know it they have lost all sense of certainty, falling deeper & deeper into their own delusions.

“Headroom” is the lead single off of the forthcoming 5 track EP “Clicks & Whistles” which signifies a new era of the band as they continue to craft their DIY sound with friend and engineer Nick Moyle, and new member Sam Austin bringing a new element and perspective to the song writing, as well as mixing and mastering the single and forthcoming EP.

“Clicks & Whistles” will offer an eclectic mix of style and influence, pushing the quintessential SPAWTS sound into unfamiliar territory. Lyrically taking you on a journey through self sabotage, expired circumstances & broken friendships with a driving pulse of existential optimism.

“Headroom” is to be released in conjunction with the bands performance at Welcome To Nowhere Festival.

“Headroom’ releases on all platforms on Friday the 5th of February 2021.

“Clicks & Whistles” is due for release this side of 2021
