13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Rodney Crowell – Something Has To Change

“Am I ready for times such as these? Emphatically no.” So sings Rodney Crowell on his new song, Something Has To Change.

Mr Crowell has a new album due out in July and Something Has To Change will be on it. The song features a passionate vocal performance from Rodney, powerful lyrics and…a trombone solo! Here’s the blurb with more:

Rodney Crowell will release his 18th studio album, Triage, on July 23, 2021 featuring the first single, “Something Has To Change”, along with a video for the song. The video was directed by filmmaker/musician Haroula Rose and was shot at Castle Recording Studios in Franklin, TN.

The album will be on his third on his own imprint, RC1 Records, and is his first with Thirty Tigers. A writer known for the universal and literary quality of his writing, Triage is a departure, a revealing album that Rodney has called his most personal to date. This is no small statement from such a prolific and acclaimed musician: Rodney has won numerous awards, including two GRAMMY’s and six Americana Music Association Awards as well as their Lifetime Achievement for Songwriter award. This last accolade resonates deeply with a man who has stacked up fifteen number one hits including 6 of his own, and dozens of others for an impressively diverse array of artists including Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban, Bob Seger, Etta James, Grateful Dead.

This new collection of songs was written during the great political, climate and economic upheaval that has marked recent years. The noise of that chaos encouraged the songwriter to go inside for solace and answers. The result is this series of songs that contend with these themes but approach them from a place of healing love and solution. That they are being released while we find ourselves walking through a global pandemic, is a gift of perfect timing.
