13th Floor New Songs of the Day: Vika & Linda – Raise Your Hand & My Heart Is In The Wrong Place
We have two new songs for you on this crisp Sunday morning from Vika & Linda. They are Raise Your Hand and My Heart Is In The Wrong Place and they should take the chill out of the air.
Vika & Linda are about to release their first new album in 19 years. Here’s the record company blurb with details:
The long wait is over for Vika & Linda fans, with the beloved duo announcing details of their eagerly awaited new album, their first album of original songs in 19 years. The album – aptly titled The Wait – will be released by Bloodlines on Friday September 17.
‘Raise Your Hand’ is a rousing anthem of power and confidence and is already a fan favourite at live shows. “As soon as we sing ‘raise your hand’, the hands go up in the crowd,” Linda smiles. “With all that’s going on at the moment, this song is relevant in so many ways. It’s anthemic – raise your hand, speak up, say what you want, don’t be ignored.”
‘My Heart Is In The Wrong Place’ “is one of those songs that everyone can relate to,” Vika says. “Sometimes you feel like giving up, but something in you just makes you keep pushing through. I think that’s why Linda and I have had such a long career – we’ve never listened to the knockers. We just keep pushing through.”
Renowned musician Mick Thomas sings the sisters’ praises: “maybe it’s the openness of the delivery, the honest timbre of the voices or the confident direct beauty of the song arrangements that gets us in. But something makes these songs seem crucial, breathless, and familiar – all at once. This record’s been a long time coming. Welcome to the new Vika & Linda album. Welcome to those voices.”
The songwriting credits for The Wait – seventh studio album for Vika & Linda – read like a who’s who of Australian music royalty: Don Walker, Glenn Richards, Chris Cheney, Bernard Fanning, Kasey Chambers & Brandon Dodd, Ben Salter, Paul Kelly, Neil Murray & Matt Walker, Mick Thomas & Jemma Rowlands, and emerging talent Eva Seymour.
“It took us three times to make this record, it kept getting delayed,” Linda says. “And we’ve been waiting 19 years to make this record … Waiting for more songs. Waiting for the right opportunity.”
The Wait follows a triumphant 2020 for Vika & Linda, which saw them score their first number one album when their career anthology, ‘Akilotoa, entered the ARIA charts at number one – the first ever number one album by an Australian female duo. Three months later, their gospel collection, Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso), debuted at number two.
“Somehow we managed to shine out when all around was dark,” Linda says.
The Wait is available to pre-order as a limited edition deluxe CD, which includes an exclusive bonus disc of live songs recorded in March at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The album will also be available on limited edition clear vinyl, or as a standard CD. Copies of the deluxe CD and the vinyl are strictly limited edition, with only a small quantity of each being made; all copies of the vinyl will be hand signed by Vika & Linda making this a must-have for fans. The Wait is available to pre-order here.
It’s certainly been a long time coming, but the first original Vika & Linda album since 2002 is well worth The Wait.
