13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Carb On Carb – Be My Mirror
Another new music Friday rolls around and so we have new music (surprise!) from Carb On Carb. The song is Be My Mirror.
Be My Mirror is short, sweet and to the point. Here’s the record company blurb with more:
Friday July 30, 9:00am – Tāmaki-based duo Carb on Carb have today released their energetic new single, ‘Be My Mirror’.
Clocking in at just over two minutes, the short song is crafted in a way that packs a punch and could breathe life into any situation.
While the song was originally intended to be slower and darker, it was instead hugely sped up. This resulted in a track that inspires fun and acts as a nod to the carefree and joy-fuelled moments we hold close for a lifetime. “That original version was slower and darker but got hugely sped up with a lot more positive energy in the final mix,” band member James Stuteley (drums) says.
The song also holds a special place in band members Nicole Gaffney (guitar and vocals) and James’s hearts, as it marks the first song they wrote after releasing their 2018 album For Ages.
’Be My Mirror’ was recorded by Harry Lilley at The Stomach in Palmerston North, a venue and studio space James describes as “one of the country’s best”. It was later mixed by Chris Teti, who also worked with the duo on For Ages.
James says the song’s accompanying video feels a lot like “going on holiday with us [Carb on Carb].
”From the start, we had decided this video should be fun to make, because our best videos from the past were also fun to make. I think that really shows in the finished product.”
Shot on film by musician and director Ezra Simons, the upbeat video gives fans a look at where Carb on Carb first started bringing the song to life, along with several other locations that are meaningful to the duo. It’s friendship at its finest, set against Aotearoa backdrops that will take your breath away if you let them.
The song comes in the wake of both ‘Here Comes the Best Bit’ – which was released last month – and the nationwide tour that saw Carb on Carb performing their new releases for fans in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Blenheim.
For James, getting back out on the road again was “an absolute treat!”
”It was a classic example of being away from something for a while and coming back to it and being like ‘Oh yeah, I remember why I got into this in the first place”. It was also so nice to connect with fans again, and know that people are still very here for it.”
’Be My Mirror’ is now available to stream across all major platforms. Alternatively, it can be purchased from Bandcamp.
