Lisa Crawley – Terminal Velocity: New Song Of The Day

Lisa Crawley reaches Terminal Velocity, at least that’s the name of her new song, just released today.

Lisa, of course, is an ex-pat Kiwi living in LA. In fact we just spoke with her recently. Click here to watch the interview. Here’s the lowdown on her latest:

Lisa CrawleyLOS ANGELES, CA – New Zealand-born, indie-pop chanteuse Lisa Crawley moved to Los Angeles in early 2020, after career forays in London and Melbourne. Over the past year, Lisa harnessed her insatiable creative drive to write, record and release numerous singles followed by her recently recent EP ‘Looking For Love (In A Major), featuring singles ‘Looking For Love’, ‘The Right Way’ and ‘Clear History’, produced by Grammy-nominated Rob Kleiner.

‘Terminal Velocity’ is the first single since ‘Looking For Love (In A Major)’ was released. The song was written and recorded with Rob Kleiner in Los Angeles and was motivated by ‘the conflict of having both melancholic and optimistic tendencies and trying to stay hopeful throughout the uncertainty everyone is experiencing at the moment’

Musically, it features fragile vocals, delicate guitars and piano, and develops into orchestrated sweeps featuring clarinets, glockenspiels, trumpets, mellotrons, and lush backing vocals. Artists such as Andy Schauf, Cat Power, Jon Brion, Natalie Press and bands such as Broken Social Scene and Loney Dear have all played a part in Crawley’s and Kleiner’s influence when writing and recording Terminal Velocity.

Lisa is a four-time APRA Silver Scroll Award nominee, and was twice selected for the prestigious Banff Centre songwriter residency (Canada), where many of her notable songs were written. Recently, it was announced that she was a 2021 recipient of the APRA Professional Development Awards. Read more HERE.

A natural collaborator, Lisa has worked with luminary antipodean songwriters Tim Finn, Greg Johnson and Hugo Race, and created her show “Elizabeth” with Bullet Heart Club (Daffodils). Lisa has performed her own song arrangements with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra and opened for Suzanne Vega, John Mayer, Jools Holland, Paul Weller and Simply Red. More recently, Lisa donned her acting hat to star as ‘GIRL’ in the Tony Award-winning musical ‘Once’.

Lisa’s songs also graced the airwaves of US TV shows “Nancy Drew”, “Good Trouble”, “Stumptown”, and “Proven Innocent” this year and will be launching her EP and new single with a full band show at the Hotel Cafe on October 12.

“…an impressive peek into Crawley’s style. With a free-flowing melody dancing above a laid-back, soulful groove, the single hits a sweet spot, production-wise. And between the sheer vibes of the tune and Crawley’s transportive lyricism, the finished product is a truly communicative expression, employing rhythm, harmony and verse to depict a complex feeling.” – American Songwriter
