Lee Oskar – The Low Rider Never Forgets: Interview

Lee Oskar is about to release Never Forget, an ambitious and important record with a very personal and poignant message.

Lee OskarYou probably know Lee Oskar as the funky harmonica player for War, the 70s band with hits such as All Day Music, The World Is A Ghetto and Low Rider.

Born in Denmark, Lee moved the US on his own while still a teenager and within months found himself on stage with Eric Burdon and on a hit record with Spill The Wine.

Lee OskarLee’s family history is not unlike that of many Jewish Europeans and his family were, sadly, victims of the Nazi holocaust. His mother escaped the concentration camps, but other family members did not.

And so, The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda has a long and wonderful conversation with Lee Oskar as he tells us about making Never Forget and a musical career that is filled with stories and songs. Be sure to watch til the end as Lee reveals what it was like to be on stage with Jimi Hendrix on the night before he died.

Lee OskarNever Forget powerfully addresses the atrocities of the Holocaust, while also serving as a stirring reminder that great music is a universal force for everything positive and vibrant throughout society. Never Forget’s nine largely instrumental tunes are sequenced like a soundtrack. The son of a holocaust survivor, Never Forget is Oskar’s musical memoir – Passages Through Music – telling his journey, his and his family’s story — but also humanity’s story.
