Lucero – Buy A Little Time: 13th Floor New Song

Lucero has just released their new song, Buy A Little Time. We urge you to take a little time and give it a spin.

Here’s the record company blurb with more:

LuceroToday, Memphis rock/alt-country band Lucero releases the wistful and electric new single “Buy a Little Time” from their upcoming album Should’ve Learned by Now, out February 24 via Liberty & Lament/Thirty Tigers. The song is accompanied by a music video filmed during soundcheck and was featured this morning at BrooklynVegan, who said it “finds them embracing fuzzed-out, anthemic heartland rock, sounding like Tom Petty jamming with Crazy Horse but in the way that only Lucero can.” The band has also announced an early 2023 winter tour across the Southeast and Midwest, with stops in Indianapolis, Charlotte, Orlando, New Orleans and more.

“‘Buy a Little Time’ was written right after we recorded When You Found Me, and if it had been written a little earlier, it could’ve gone on that record or even on Among the Ghosts,” explains bandleader Ben Nichols. “It sticks out on Should’ve Learned by Now because of that. It has a meaner sound than the rest of the album, but it was too good to leave off the record.” He continues, “It’s a cliche, but I feel like most folks (myself included) feel like if they had just a little more time, they could make everything work out. It’s probably not true, and that makes this song a little bittersweet. Also got a chance to throw in a line about my daughter. We stumbled across the piano breakdown in the last chorus by accident while we were recording Cory Branan’s excellent back-up vocals. It’s one of my favorite parts on the record.”

Lucero’s 12th studio album, Should’ve Learned by Now finds the band embracing their trademark punchy driving rhythms and punk-rooted guitar licks after exploring darker, more atmospheric sonic landscapes on their two previous releases. A reflection of a band that knows itself, the new album recognizes the past in its sound and content while leaving the door wide open to the future and the lessons still in store. The debut single “One Last F.U.” was hailed by Rolling Stone, who praised the “heavy dose of punk-rock attitude” and declared “’One Last F.U.’ has the defiant, sneering energy of Lucero’s loudest recordings.”

Led by the gravelly voice of singer/songwriter Ben Nichols, Lucero also features original members Brian Venable on guitar, Roy Berry on drums, John C. Stubblefield on bass and Rick Steff on keys. The group of Memphis road-dogs has maintained a large and dedicated fanbase for over 20 years, delivering a rowdy and communal live experience that is equally as exhilarating in a dive bar as it is in amphitheaters. NPR Music has called them “the rare kind of band with enough spirit to fill an arena, but with its heart planted firmly in the garage.”

Should’ve Learned by Now was produced by Grammy Award-winning engineer/mixer, Matt Ross-Spang (John Prine, Jason Isbell).
