Fly My Pretties – Fly My Pretties: New Song Of The Day

Fly My Pretties release the latest chapter in the Studio Recordings journey, following on from the success of THE STUDIO RECORDINGS PART ONE & PART TWO.

Here’s what the folks at Loop have to say about it:

Fly My PrettiesThe single ‘Fly My Pretties’ is written by frontman Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds) and harks back to the formation of the collective, first appearing on their iconic album LIVE AT BATS.

Recorded at Wellington’s Surgery Studios alongside members of the Fly My Pretties whānau, this release is the first time the song has been captured in the studio, and is produced and mixed by longtime collaborator Dr Lee Prebble.

Showcasing the sound that has made Fly My Pretties one of NZ’s most-loved musical collectives, the track is an ode to Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington, the birthplace of Fly My Pretties.

With lyrics that stand as true today as they did when the song was originally written, the track is a folk/country-inspired tune which showcases a group of musicians who are well and truly in sync after years of sharing stages across Australasia.

Fly My Pretties

The release comes hot on the heels of a special one-off performance from Fly My Pretties at WOMAD New Zealand, where the band headlined the first evening, and performed to one of the largest crowds all weekend. This performance saw the track ‘Fly My Pretties’ played live for the first time in over ten years.

To celebrate that performance, this studio-recorded version is being released, which captures the energy of a Fly My Pretties live set, and presents a polished version of the song for the first time.

The release comes as the wheels are put in motion for a new project from Fly My Pretties. Expect more content throughout 2023, as one of New Zealand’s most-loved musical collectives gets set to reinvent itself once again
