Michèle Ducray – Psycho: New Song Of The Day

Aotearoa dark-pop artist Michèle Ducray returns with eccentric and slick new
single + video, Psycho.

Here’s the Lil Sister blurb:

Wanaka-based, dark-pop artist Michèle Ducray is back with another killer single, the Michèle Ducrayeccentric new track ‘Psycho’. The release is accompanied by a captivatingly bold new music video.

A striking four-to-the-floor beat and a hook-laden electric guitar set the tone for Michèle’s sassy and captivating vocal performance; it feels wild, but calculated, creating a perfectly unhinged atmosphere for a self-isolating song. Michèle’s vocals are layered and textured in the background, while her brilliantly audacious lead vocal takes centre stage.

‘Psycho’ describes someone who’s sick of the world’s restrictions and doesn’t really care anymore,” explains Michèle. “It’s based on self-expression; we’re all on this giant rock heading into oblivion, so who cares – just be your most authentic self!”

“It’s the kind of track that makes you want to get up and dance away your inhibitions. Where cirque-du-freak, meets a nihilistic point of view.”

Produced, mixed and mastered at Liam Quinn’s studio in Sydney, Australia, ‘Psycho’ encapsulates Michèle’s persona of balancing the mysterious with the relatable; the quirky with the familiar. “‘Psycho’ showcases what you’d expect from me – unique but also really catchy! I really wanted an infectious hook, and all of my upcoming material encompasses this.”

Also out today is the accompanying video; a fun, sadistic mini-movie that visually represents the rebellious, “weird, wild and crazy” side of Michèle, as well as the meaning of the song.

“My character is on a ‘date’ with a ‘creature’… she leads him on throughout the video, playing little jokes on him throughout the video,” says Michèle. “It’s a game of cat-and-mouse, with the protagonist having a lot of fun on her vacation at the ‘mansion’.”

Michèle DucrayBased in Wanaka, Michèle was raised in South Africa, China and Christchurch. She has worked with Simon Gooding (Dua Lipa, Pink), Pacific Heights (Drax Project, Shapeshifter), Liam Quinn (Delta Goodrem, Rita Ora), and DJ RUEBIK. Signed to Antipodes Records, her music has been featured on some of NZ’s biggest radio stations and recently performed at 2023’s Bay Dreams and ZM’s Electric Avenue. A self-confessed “fan of the peculiar”, Michèle is inspired by mysterious and sinister themes such as horror and the colourful characteristics of circus life. Her sound is characterised by a mix of intoxicating vocals, deep drum & bass, and lucid pop melodies for a melancholic yet energetically upbeat immersion of seductive tones.

With today’s release following her recently released single ‘Monster’, Michèle Ducray is only just getting started. Dive into the infectious sounds and visuals of today’s track and get ready for more to come!
