R.I.P. John Mayall: British Blues Pioneer Age 90

John Mayall has died at his home in California, age 90. The “Godfather of British Blues” helped ignite the careers of Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor, among many others.

John MayallMayall is best known for his band The Bluesbreakers who, at one time or another featured Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor and Harvey Mandell. Their 1966 debut album, Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton (aka The Beano Album), is considered a classic and also features John McVie on bass along with drummer Hughie Flint. Mayall sang and played keyboards and harmonica.
