Ty, TAMiii & day13n (Ft. Idol Essence, Muks) – L.O.V.E.: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Here is the blurb with more:

TAMiiiL.O.V.E. is a bouncy pop hit, dripping with collaboration. The track features a verse from the rising Wahine Māori star Idol Essence who has garnered co-signing from the likes of Tom Scott, Melodownz, Dusty & Ghos, and just about everyone who’s anyone in the NZ hip hop scene.

The original demo was recorded as a part of The Karanga’s Navigators program, and is a testament to the inclusive, multicultural community building environment that the program fosters among Rangatahi, bringing together Tongan, Māori, Canadian, and South African voices on to one light hearted track. In a time where division is an easy road to take, this track reminds us of the importance of connection.

After the smash success of their debut single ‘Growing Pains’, which elevated the artists to over 1000 monthly listeners on Spotify, the dynamic duo ‘TAMiii & day13n’ have been hard at work. The pair’s sophomore single ‘L.O.V.E.’ is the culmination of this work, and the beginning of a robust rollout schedule leading to the release of their album.

What was initially planned to be a 3 track EP has been extended into a full length album, slated for release in mid 2025.

The track, ‘L.O.V.E.’ is just released and is just what our NZ music scene needs to pull us out of a long, cold winter. The sonics bring to mind beach days and warm nights, sunsets, and spring flowers, as newcomer Ty delivers catchy, silky smooth vocals on the hook.

While this track might be seen as a departure from the content that fans of day13n’s music are used to, it’s a gentle reminder to care for yourself, fill your cup, so we can together, more effectively build a brighter future for our community. .

About:

‘day13n’:  A story of recovery, being unabashedly weird, and unapologetically me.

day13nToronto-born, and currently based in Auckland, I grew up sandwiched between the wealthy east end neighbourhood “The Beaches” and a TCHC subsidised housing community. The oldest of four, I spent my childhood raising my three younger sisters, while my parents struggled with unemployment, substance abuse, and my immigrant mother attempted to manage while my father was in prison, and absent.

By the age of 14, I had developed serious substance use issues myself, and was struggling with mental illness, which resulted in violent altercations with my father, and inevitably me being kicked out of my family home, and living on my own by the age of 16, dropping out of school, and entering the workforce.

For the next ten years, I worked to pull myself out of that pit, with therapy, self reflection, and medication. At my darkest points, I found solace in punk, and angry hip-hop music, but it was messages of hope, and belief in a brighter future embedded in the lyrics of artists like Eminem and Greenday that left a lasting impact.

I take inspiration from a vast array of artists, across genres, and am especially drawn to the unique, experimental sounds of people like JPEGMAFIA, BROCKHAMPTON, Injury Reserve, Death Grips, Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, K-OS, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Queen.

I am an artist who fearlessly embraces myself, free of judgement, and refuses to be defined by conventions or societal norms. As an Experimental Punk-Rapper, I challenge the boundaries of musical genres, and aim to provoke my audiences to question their definitions of other people, music, and themselves.

At the core of my artistic vision is a message of individuality. I encourage listeners to take pride in their uniqueness, and love themselves radically, as I share my journey of recovery, from dark beginnings, to a bright future.

Drawing inspiration from a vast array of musical genres, I defy all attempts at categorisation, seamlessly incorporating elements from punk, rock, jazz, EDM, and more into my raps, to create a truly unique, and eclectic sonic experience.

I am continuing to craft my musical narrative following the release of my debut album\7/13\7/an autobiographical concept album that guides listeners through my own journey of self-betterment, and healing; meeting them at their own darkest points, and openly discussing how I was able to find the light within myself – and the release of my sophomore EPEntropy, which reflects on the cycles of decomposition and synthesis that make up the natural world, and what that means to us as human beings. 2024 has seen the further evolution of my sound. The nostalgic pop hit Growing Pains, was a smash success, and I’ve followed it up with the pop single L.O.V.E. (On My Mind), as I continue to experiment, and push the boundaries of the concept of musical genre.

I promise to leave a lasting mark on the music industry with my unapologetic weirdness, and captivating storytelling. Be prepared to dive head first into raw vulnerability, in a world where genres and categories no longer exist, and authenticity reigns supreme.

About:

TAMiii

TAMiiiHailing from the vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa, and currently based on the picturesque North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand, TAMiii is a dynamic pop rapper who seamlessly blends cultural influences into a unique sonic experience.

Transplanted to Auckland at the age of 5, TAMiii discovered the art of rap at a tender age. It all began with the iconic “Rapper’s Delight” by Sugar Hill Gang, a classic that she mastered at the hands of her godfather when she was just 8 years old. This early exposure ignited her passion for the rhythmic and lyrical complexities of hip-hop.

Immersed in the world of performing arts, TAMiii pursued a degree in contemporary dance at Unitec in Mount Albert. It was during this time that she crossed paths with fellow dancers who were also wordsmiths. A pivotal moment came when a fellow dancer, and rapper, revealed the transformative power of turning poetry into rap. This realisation became a defining chapter in TAMiii’s artistic journey.

Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of musical icons, TAMiii credits Michael Jackson for his electrifying stage presence and unparalleled showmanship. The storytelling prowess of J Cole, Eminem, and the genre-defying creativity of Doja Cat deeply influences her lyricism. Channeling the confidence and allure of Rihanna, TAMiii crafts a sound that is uniquely hers.

Since 2014, TAMiii has been sharing her passion for dance, teaching all around Auckland. However, she quickly discovered that her connection to music runs deeper than just movement.
