With an unorthodox style and obsessive approach to music production, Cult Romance exercises his creative processes by writing, producing, and playing all instruments himself – a skill set reserved for only those that are 100% committed to their craft.
For Cult Romance, he found his passion for music to be the only constant variable in his unconventional life. From the age of 14, the New Zealand born, Australian raised self-taught musician began experimenting with his own sound, and since then, has channeled his irrepressible energy into creating music that is an extension of himself and his life experiences. In 2024, Cult Romance built a dedicated social media following, sharing his personal journey while promoting mental health advocacy, cultural connection, and language revitalisation. Drawing inspiration from his Māori (Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Koata) and American heritage, his bilingual lyrics (te reo Māori and English) lie at the heart of his contemporary alternative-pop sound.
Cult Romance released his debut single, ‘Take Me Now’ in 2021 before hitting the road with 8 x ARIA award winner, Amy Shark on her 2022 QLD leg of her See U Somewhere Australia Regional Tour. 2025 kicks off with a bilingual (te reo māori, and English) alternative-pop break-up song, titled ‘Seville Grove’, written and produced by Cult Romance.
