Made You Look creates music that speaks authenticity. A duo from West Auckland who’ve faced their own struggles and are channelling that into a fresh sound that mixes pop with a hard edge. Sweater explores the emotional tug-of-war of processing the end of a relationship.
But Sweater isn’t just a song, it’s a gut-punch (kind of ironic considering the two met in a boxing gym in West Auckland after Alex took a swing at Shelton). Written in the thick of emotional fallout, the track captures the chaotic push and pull of trying to rationalise a breakup.
Through raw lyrics like “I made a sacrifice for you” and “cut all of the bullshit out my life for you”, the track dives into the murky waters of self-justification, echoing the inner dialogue that often follows heartbreak.
Sweater is accompanied by a music video that was shot in an abandoned building in Auckland and was directed by Finn Kennedy.

Made You Look the electrifying two-piece band featuring the dynamic duo of Drummer-Producer Shelton Woolright and Vocalist-Producer Alex Thompson, has a backstory as captivating as their music. Their journey began in the most unconventional way when they crossed paths in a gritty boxing gym. In a raw display of talent and determination, Alex left Shelton with a black eye, and Shelton returned the favour with a bloodied nose. Little did they know that this physical clash would ignite a creative partnership that would leave a mark on the New Zealand music scene.
While Alex was diligently studying music at Mainz Music, Shelton was already a multi-platinum recording artist and producer. Fate brought them back together backstage at the Rhythm and Vines festival, where Shelton recognized Alex’s untapped potential as a ferocious rapper and invited him to collaborate on his project, ‘Deadbeat’ Years of collaboration and performing on every major festival in New Zealand transformed their relationship into an unstoppable force in songwriting and stage presence, unconsciously sowing the seed of what was the natural progression; thus, ‘Made You Look’ was born.
