Arli Liberman has quickly become one of New Zealand’s most in-demand composers and musicians. After years of crafting his signature guitar-driven, emotive, and atmospheric sound, Liberman has showcased his unique style through numerous solo albums and soundtracks. As a screen composer, he has created the scores for the feature films SavageStylebenderKa Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End (with Tiki Taane), and The Mountain (with Troy Kingi), taking home the 2021 APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film Award and multiple nominations along the way.

The TRACES album journey began in 2021 when musicians Arli Liberman andRhian Sheehan came together at a music festival, reimagining music from their existing repertoires. Although a planned tour was cancelled due to the pandemic, they channelled their energy into creating new material from their respective studios in Wellington and Auckland. Combining Liberman’s atmospheric, Middle Eastern-influenced guitar with Sheehan’s spectral modular soundscapes, TRACES features evocative electric guitar, Moog & modular synthesisers, and occasional spoken word. The result is an emotionally resonant, atmospheric, and otherworldly instrumental eight-track album showcasing their unique collaboration.
