Kaylee Bell – The Thing About Us: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Award-winning country pop artist Kaylee Bell is proud to announce her brand new album Cowboy Up, out Friday 26 September. Alongside the announcement, Bell has shared her new single The Thing About Us available now on all platforms.

Here is the blurb with more:

The follow-up to her chart-topping album Nights Like This, Cowboy Up is a major step up for Bell, cementing her as one of Australasia’s most exciting and accomplished voices in country music. Where Nights Like This captured momentum, Cowboy Up takes the reins with clarity, confidence and heart. It’s the sound of an artist who knows exactly who she is and what she stands for.

A powerful mix of feel-good anthems, raw ballads and fierce storytelling, Cowboy Up explores the many shades of love in all its beauty, frustration, growth and complexity. From the thrill of new romance, to the tension of unmet expectations, to the joy of stepping into motherhood for the first time, this is Kaylee Bell with her feet firmly planted and her heart on her sleeve.

The album features already-released singles “Red Dirt Romeo”, “Ring On It”, and fan favourite “Cowboy Up”  a bold, no-nonsense track about hitting a crossroads in a relationship, where it’s time for someone to step up or step aside. After teasing the song on TikTok, it racked up over a million views before it even dropped.

New single out today, “The Thing About Us” is a bright, feel-good anthem about finding forever love, that unmistakable moment when you both just know it’s the real thing. Wrapped in breezy melodies and vivid imagery, the song captures the kind of love that shows up in the everyday: “blue skies fading like your blue jeans.” It’s a celebration of commitment, connection, and the magic of the simple moments that make a love story last.

Also featured on the album is “Song for Shania”, a heartfelt nod to the one and only Shania Twain, who was a major influence on Bell’s journey into music. The track is a love letter to the trailblazing icon who showed a small-town Kiwi girl it was possible to dream big. It’s both a tribute and a reminder of the power music has to shape identity. Bell puts it best in the lyrics “I used to play her CD’s swearing that’d be me, hoping one day I’d be just like Shania”

Of the track “Heartbeat” Bell says: “This was written in the moments after finding out I was pregnant, when everything shifted in an instant. It captures the shock, the wonder, and the overwhelming realisation that life as I knew it was about to change forever. Writing it was my way of processing all those feelings, the joy, the fear, and the deep sense of love that was already forming.
It’s the most personal song I’ve ever written, and it time-stamps such a defining moment in my life. I hope it connects with anyone who’s experienced a life-changing moment, those times when everything is suddenly different, and you feel your world expanding
.”

The album also features a powerful cover of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn”, a full-circle moment for Bell, who grew up singing along to the 90s classic. “It’s one of those songs I just had to sing,” she says. “It’s iconic and I’ve always loved it, especially the melody of the song.” Bell played the track to a roaring crowd at CMC Rocks Australia earlier this year, delivering a powerhouse performance that became a standout moment in her biggest live set to date.

Bell has built her career on a strong sense of self, a deep connection with her audience, and an unstoppable work ethic, all of which are on full display throughout Cowboy Up. Fans will get to hear the album live this spring, as Bell hits the road for a nationwide headline tour this November, bringing Cowboy Up to stages across Aotearoa. Following two blockbuster runs throughout 2023 and 2024, this new tour promises a fresh, elevated live show packed with new songs and fan favourites at iconic venues throughout the country.
