Tom Cunliffe – Nightingale: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

New Zealand songwriter Tom Cunliffe returns with Nightingale – the first single off his soon-to-be-released fourth album SPIT OUT YOUR GUM.

Here is the blurb with more:

With a flatpicked acoustic guitar riff at its core, Nightingale drifts through surreal imagery and fever-dream poetry. Swirling violin and a buoyant bassline carry it through changing moods – menacing one second, dreamlike the next.

The song gives us a glimpse of what’s to come from Cunliffe on his fourth album SPIT OUT YOUR GUMset for release later this year.

Recorded live-to-tape at Roundhead StudiosSpit Out Your Gum carries the unmistakable warmth of that hallowed room and the people within it. With Paddy Hill (The VeilsCrowded House) at the desk, Cunliffe was joined by Dave Khan (Marlon WilliamsReb Fountain) on violin and Cass Basil (Tiny Ruins) on bass.

Together, they captured performances that unfold in real time – no edits, no digital polish, just songs recorded in single takes, preserving the intimacy, imperfection, and energy of the moment.

Tom will be touring this November alongside Wellington troubadour Ali Whitton, before performing in Melbourne in December and the Auckland Folk Festival early next year.
