Massive Crush – Dizzying Heights: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Massive Crush is a Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) band whose sound is currently undergoing a vibrant transformation. Now they celebrate the release of their new single ‘Dizzying Heights’.

Here is the blurb with more:

While their debut album Sweet Honey Days showcased a sophisticated pop and groove collection—layered with lush textures including French horn, trumpet, string quartet, and JM Goldie on vocals—their latest work reveals a shift toward harder, hook-driven indie rock.

The collective’s live core is a powerful three-piece: guitar, double bass, and drums, built to deliver impact. Yet their recordings draw on an ever-expanding network of local and international collaborators, ensuring their sound remains dynamic and expansive.

They have just released the ‘Strange Things’ EP, four new tracks that serve as the A-side prelude to their forthcoming full album, due out in mid-2026.

The Single: ‘Dizzying Heights’
The first single, ‘Dizzying Heights’, tackles the modern pressure cooker of self-image and mental health, particularly in the age of social media. It serves as an anthem for authenticity, steals a quote from Nietzsche, and is driven by the core message: “You don’t have to be someone you are not.”

Analogue Credibility
The ‘Strange Things’ EP was captured with a rich, classic sound, recorded entirely in analogue on 2″ tape at Earwig Studios with Darren McShane, and mixed and mastered by John McDermott at Arch Hill Studio. This dedication to analog warmth is perfectly paired with their new, edgy direction. The EP includes a hammond organ with Leslie speaker, Rhodes keyboard, bowed bass and djembe drums.

Massive Crush are
Matt Cawte (The Doubtful Sounds): Guitar, vocals
Brett Ammundsen: Double Bass
Rick Barr: Drums
