Soaked Oats are no strangers to Tāmaki Makaurau, and the Hollywood Theatre, having played it twice before during the six years they have been in existence.
Guitar Wolf, Jet Rock ’n’ Roll kings, returned to Aotearoa/New Zealand after six years to perform at Whammy Bar last night as part of a six-date tour, bringing the sound of Japanese punk, rock, rockabilly and garage to our bleeding ear-holes.
June of 44, finally brought their live show to Aotearoa/New Zealand shores. On their one previous visit to Australia, they had a layover at Auckland Airport, but never made it into a venue, I suspected the excitement was going to be symbiotic between band and audience tonight.
Blam Blam Blam’s performance with The Hoodoo Gurus on the previous Tuesday night, had set up some very expectations for tonight’s show. Given that on Tuesday, they were restricted to a shorter set of nine songs, it was expected they would be not just playing the hits for tonight’s headline show.
Ty Segall and Freedom Band performed to a full house audience, on a storm threatened and humid night at, one of Tāmaki Makaurau’s finest (and newly renovated) music venues.
