Black Joe Lewis At The Powerstation
Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears turned out a heady mix of Texas-style blues and soul last night at The Powerstation. The 7-piece band, complete with 3-man horn section helped the crowd work up the first serious sweat of the summer.

Great gig .. deserved a bigger turnout but didn’t we have fun .. my two cents worth review: recipe for a ‘Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears Flaming Cocktail’ .. mix equal parts Led Zep and James Brown with a dash of Dexys Midnight Runners and The Black Keys .. Shake, rattle and roll!
(p.s is this a first for The 13th Floor – video.? – i know it’s all about listening but sometimes it is good to watch. Only recently stumbled across your site Marty, have long listened to you on NatRad .. nice one .. colourful, classy and abundant with the good oil .. good luck with it)

Hi Karen,
Thanks for stopping by. There is other video content on The 13th Floor…lots of live performances and few “archival” gems. I’ll have a full length review of the Black Joe Lewis show in the next Volume Magazine.

Fantastic show. You could hear the early blues influence of Muddy Waters,Howling Wolf and the Delta Blues of Robert Johnson along with Soul,Funk and Rock influences.$45 was an absolute bargain for a concert of this calibre, pity those who missed this show. Here’s hoping they make it back to NZ next year.Tyra and The Blue Bells was also outstanding.
