Whakatāne singer-songwriter Eve Kelly has today released her funky new soul-pop anthem, ‘Mr. Big Shot’.

Following on from the release of her debut single ‘Gotta Let Go’ in October 2022, and her second single ‘Dance With Me’ not long after, Eve Kelly is excited to share ‘Mr. Big Shot’, which is a mix of old-school funk with a modern pop twist and shows off the singer’s rich voice.

“The lyrics really speak for themselves, but it was more or less an encounter with someone who promised big things career-wise but turned out to be potentially false and misleading. After a final email with them, I went on a drive with my friend Keagan (who is also a musician and performs drums on the track), and we wrote the first verse and chorus on a brown paper Glassons bag – and that’s how ‘Mr. Big Shot’ came to life!”

Eve feels that through growth and experience, she has grown into a strong-minded woman who “doesn’t really have much room to be messed about, and so ‘Mr. Big Shot’ really reflects my current mindset.”

Accompanying the single is a performance music video made by Christian Tjandrawinata. “I wanted to capture a semblance of a ‘woman empowerment theme’,” explains Eve, “this is why I chose to wear a suit and display the joyous, live aspect of playing with a great band.”

‘Mr Big Shot’ does indeed have a great band that adds to the lush production and big band vibe. The great band is made up of talented musicians Nick Taylor, Jason Herbert, Stallone D’Souza, Keagan B. Smith, Thabani Gapara and Christian Mausia. ‘Mr. Big Shot’ is a single worth tuning into, and Eve Kelly is an artist to be following!
