Flogging A Dead One Horse Town – Tambourine Nightmare: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
After what has felt like a much shorter sabbatical than anticipated, MUZAI Records returns in 2024 with the release of EP 17, the brand new release from New Zealand noise rock trio Flogging A Dead One Horse Town.

Here is what the fine folks at MUZAI Records have to say about it:
In tried and tested traditions, a single from the forthcoming release, “Tambourine Nightmare,” has been made available for streaming as of writing, before the EP arrives on streaming platforms and on CDR in the New Year.
Once again capturing extended jam sessions in the woolsheds of Aotearoa, Tim, Dave and Mitch take the strongest cuts from their freeform noise rock and work through them repetitively – in order not just to make sure the song is ready for a final recording, but to add to the motorik effect of the music.
Experimenting once again with instrumentation not usually associated with noise rock, in this case, the humble keyboard, “EP 17” continues the band’s nod, be it intentional or not, to komische music, with the hypnotic rhythm section of Tim and Dave we’ve become familiar with over 15 EPs so far, with the angular, dissonant guitar parts that Mitch brought to the group since becoming a trio.
In addition to the new EP, Flogging A Dead One Horse Town have a second set of releases that were to encompass a new EP – however, given the deviation from what they wish to present returning to the fold in 2024, that EP instead may-or-may-not (depending on public interest, nudge nudge) be released as single throughout 2024 and compiled someway, somehow.
Flogging A Dead One Horse Town are Dave, Tim and Mitch. They hail from New Zealand and create noise rock in their woolshed studio. Most of what you hear from the band are final takes from extended jam sessions in either the warmer climates of the North Island or the colder, harsher ones in the South Island.
The band originally caught the eye of MUZAI Records after opening for God Bows To Math in Tauranga one album tour and had been friends with Threat.Meet.Protocol when they started releasing their EP’s through MUZAI Records. Their biggest success came after the release of their cassette tape compilation, Flogging A Dead One Horse Town, with their single “Meteorite Debris,” earning rotation on Amazing Radio and airplay on BBC 6 Music, Radio Control (NZ) and KFuel (France.)
