Good Habits + Jenny Mitchell NZ Farewell Tour

To make their farewell tour extra special, nomadic duo Good Habits (UK) are joined by singer-songwriter Jenny Mitchell (NZ) to share their musical stories, for a series of intimate concerts.

Good Habits’ Bonnie and Pete found themselves ‘happily stranded’ in New Zealand during Covid-19. As the lucky English muso’s got to keep on playing, they filled their ‘happily stranded’ time with adventure, music and folk collaborations. Including with the blissfully unique Jenny Mitchell. The duo return to the UK in October, and so are setting off on their biggest tour yet, to sing their dearest thank you’s and fondest goodbyes (for now).

With a shared love for storytelling, and music that takes them on travels, Good Habits and Jenny bring you their collaboration: songs of crossed paths, treasured stories and human connection.

Good Habits:

Composed of singer-cellist Bonnie Schwarz and accordionist Pete Shaw, the nomadic duo create folk-infused songs that test the limits of their traditional instruments.

Their songs tell stories of their adventures, blending trad folk with a warm yet quirky jazz-indie influence.

“The duo are musical tricksters, relishing irregular time signatures and a tendency to reprise motifs just when you think the song is over. There’s a rare emotional warmth and fullness to Good Habits’ sound” Songlines

“Revved up folkies who stitch many elements into their sound and move along with great spirit and energy”13th Floor

In the year since ‘stranded’, Good Habits have performed alongside a line up of New Zealand’s top acts including Nadia Reid, Ria Hall and Lost Tribe Aotearoa. They were winners for the 2020 Purbeck Folk Rising Competition and their nomadic summer saw performances across New Zealand’s largest festivals: Splore, TSB Festival of Lights, Resolution, Cuba Dupa, Luminate and more.

The release of their debut album, Going For Broke, gained them shining reviews in Songlines, appearances in The NZ Herald and 13th Floor.

Good HabitsIf that wasn’t enough, Good Habits created a gig-theatre piece that enjoyed a sold out run as part of the New Zealand Fringe Festival gaining them a nomination for Creative New Zealand’s ‘Arts For All Award’, due to the show’s accessibility and integrated audio description which was the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Jenny Mitchell:

Jenny Mitchell is an alt-country/folk storyteller with songs wrapped in wisdom and wit.

Her 2018 record Wildfires, produced by Sydney’s Matt Fell, was awarded the 2019 Tui for Recorded Music NZ Best Country Music Artist. Following her first Tui, the album became the first NZ album to receive a nomination for Alt-Country Album of the Year at the 2020 Australian Golden Guitar Awards.

Described by Jesse Mulligan (RNZ) as an unapologetically country artist going from strength to strength, Jenny has graced dozens of festival stages including Australia’s Maldon Folk Festival, Nannup Festival and, of course, the Tamworth Country Music Festival. At home in NZ she’s been on the Canterbury and Wellington Folk Festival bill and was a guest on the 2019 Southern Fork Americana Fest lineup.
