Rising New Zealand singer-songwriter Greta van den Brink has today unveiled her new single Chill Cool Girl, a dreamy, tongue-in-cheek indie-pop track that captures the all too relatable performance of being effortlessly “chill” at the start of a romance.

Greta, who first found her way into music after a career in film and stunt performance for Netflix, Amazon, and Apple, has quickly established herself as one of Aotearoa’s most original voices. Her debut single Road to Hell unexpectedly landed on a Netflix soundtrack, setting the stage for a career defined by cinematic storytelling and emotional rawness. From the haunting intimacy of Swimming on a Spoon to the bright hooks of U+I, Greta’s music builds vivid worlds that feel both personal and universal.
Chill Cool Girl was born out of Greta’s first-ever collaborative writing sessions with producer Noema Te Hau III at Parachute Studios in Auckland. What began as a lighthearted idea quickly evolved into one of her most relatable songs yet.
“Chill Cool Girl is one of those songs that sort of wrote itself after many late-night chats with my girlfriends,” says Greta.” “It’s about that weird, slightly humiliating phase at the start of seeing someone where you suddenly feel like you have to be the chill girl—you know, unbothered, cool with anything, totally non-psycho even though your brain is doing backflips… Trying to be sexy and detached while quietly freaking out.”
With its lo-fi, dreamy, ‘Hawaiian-country’ feel, Chill Cool Girl adds a playful new dimension to Greta’s growing body of work while continuing her trademark mix of vulnerability and bold storytelling.
Raised on a farm outside Auckland, Greta grew up surrounded by animals, trees, and the imaginative world her mother encouraged her to create. Music arrived unexpectedly when friend and actor Shane Rangi handed her a guitar and suggested she’d write songs. He was right. Greta has since transformed that spark into a career that blends cinematic influences with sharp, emotionally charged songwriting, carving her place as a unique voice in New Zealand’s indie music landscape.
Chill Cool Girl is the first single from Greta’s debut album ‘This Wasn’t Planned’ which was recorded at Big Fan and is set for release in 2026.
