Harper Finn – Love and Loneliness: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
NYC-based, New Zealand-born artist Harper Finn unveils Love and Loneliness, the evocative third track from his highly anticipated debut album – a body of work shaped by solitude, self-discovery, and the raw atmosphere of his time in New York City.
Here is the blurb with more:
Where his previous songs Doves and Where Did She Go explored themes of escape and loss, Love and Loneliness turns inward. Composed during a relationship clouded by emotional ambiguity, the track grapples with the uncomfortable question: “Are we still together because we love each other, or because we don’t want to be alone?”
Harper shares, “It’s set in a cold, grey New York winter – one of those times where you’re surrounded by people but feel completely alone. The piano chords bring me back to those damp concrete streets, getting home late, keys lost, banging on the wrong apartment door. Walking back to someone, but it already feels like the apartment’s empty.”
The song is a gentle, cinematic slow burn – reminiscent of Conversations With The Moon – with airy piano melodies that captures the stillness of winter in the city.
This latest release furthers Harper’s transformation from breakout pop newcomer to compelling alternative songwriter. Following his ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ win in 2021 and the success of his Gold-certified single Dance Away These Days (now with over 5 million streams), Harper has spent much of 2024 on the road as the live pianist for Balu Brigada, including a major support slot on Twenty One Pilots’ South America tour and previous performances across Europe, Australia and NZ.
