Ingrid and the Ministers – Boofhead (Album Review) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ingrid and the Ministers shake things up and make some noise with their second album, Boofhead, inspired by idiots everywhere.
Blues riffs mixed with punk attitude…imagine ZZ Top fronted by Joan Jett and that about nails the Boofhead sound.
Based in Wellington, Ingrid Saker is the prime minister, but this very much sounds like a band firing on all cylinders with guitarist Seamus Johnson channelling Billy Gibbons via Johnny Thunders. That’s Kim Andrews on drums and Scott Maynard on bass.
Ingrid can sneer with the best of them when she wants to…check out Last Night I Dreamt That I Shot Myself…but she can sing as well. The dreamy Half-Life had me thinking of The Motels’ Martha Davis.
But influences be damned, Ingrid and her Ministers are forging their own sound and the result is one of the best albums of the year.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Perfect album for: Rockin OUT!
