Jackie Bristow – Shakin’ My Bones, our new Song of the Day
Jackie Bristow releases stunning video for new track Shakin’ My Bones, ahead of her Outsider album release on Friday, March 4th. It’s today’s song of the day.
Good morning folks, today’s song of the day is Jackie Bristow‘s new single Shakin’ my Bones. Here is the media blurb.
A gently soothing and euphonious country tune, Shakin’ My Bones is an image-evoking song with Jackie’s effortless vocal exquisitely complemented by ethereal backing vocals. Held in place with the laid-back patter of the snare drum shuffle and smooth, fluid bass, a sweet fusion of acoustic and electric guitars work alongside a finger-picking snappy and resonating banjo.
Conjuring up the other-worldly peaceful vibe of the desert wilderness, Bristow invokes visions of being in the quiet calmness of the wild. Shakin’ My Bones encaptures themes of facing the elements and of connecting to the physical and mystical undercurrent of the environment. Inspired by her first visit to the Californian desert, Shakin’ My Bones pays homage to those feelings, saying:
“I wrote Shakin’ My Bones after a weekend trip to Joshua Tree. I was playing shows with a couple of my friends, and before the gig, suddenly we were in the middle of a big dust storm and had to take cover. We were up in this very cool house on a hill and could see the glowing town lights through the dusty mist in the distance. It was moody and magical. It was peaceful and wild. I felt my emotions stirring and slowing down, connecting to the land and the spirit of the place. When I got home to my apartment in LA, I was feeling inspired and I stayed up all night and wrote Shakin’ My Bones.”
“Working with Raj [director/cinematographer Rajendra Patel] was so easy and such a pleasure that before we knew it, we were catching the twilight at 10:30. My sister Katrina had told me about the Nevis and what a special place it is. The scenery was mind-blowing, expansive, and open with such gorgeous golden light. It was the perfect place to shoot the video.”
‘Shakin’ My Bones’ may have been inspired by the Californian desert, but due to Jackie’s COVID-enforced ‘staycation’ in New Zealand, the shoot was destined to be in an equally fascinating and vast wilderness – the remote Nevis Valley in Central Otago.
“Shooting this video was one of those magical days. I wanted to capture the epic New Zealand desert vibes, and we were blessed with a beautiful blue sky and a gorgeous sunset. It was a peaceful day, and a very natural and fun shoot. Like being in the desert in California, I felt my mood lift and that same peaceful feeling of being connected to the earth.”
