Just Janie – Cherry: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

South Island artist Just Janie has released her new single, Cherry.

Here is the blurb:

With her EP ‘Muse and Musician surpassing a million streams, and recognition as a 2024 Ōtautahi OMAP artist (Saltbox Studios & RDU 98.5FM), Just Janie is emerging as a compelling new voice in Aotearoa folk and Americana.

The Spinoff (NZ) observed:

“If you find yourself on a hike this weekend… daydreaming about Laurel Canyon, it might be the perfect time for Just Janie’s ‘Muse and Musician’.”

Cherry is the final independent single before her debut Album ‘Mythology of the Girls’ (releasing 2026). Responding to David Sheff’s memoir Beautiful Boy’, the single delves into the haunting bond between a father & son, strained by addiction. ‘You’re not the only one, who feels what you’ve become’. Recorded in a cozy lounge studio in Ōtautahi, Cherry blends Joni-esque vocals and lilting mandolin, existing between Bic Runga’sDrive’ and Joni’s ‘Blue’.

The Cherry music video was filmed in Central Otago with Tim Shaw (director) and Sian Jones (stage crew). ‘We wanted to capture the essence of putting on a childhood play for your parents, and let that unravel into something sinister. We did the entire video in one take with three set changes which was a challenge but we had a lot of fun’.
