Laneway Update
Mayor Len Brown is just introducing Mac Demarco as I make my way to the media area to file this report. I’ve just seen Connan Mockasin, Angel Olsen and Courtney Barnett. I’ve gotta say Connan was a bit of a disappointment. His neo-psychedelic noodlings were long and aimless. Much more
focussed was Angel Olsen. The American fokish-idie-ish singer-songwriter turned in a strong set that probably would have been more powerful in a smaller, more intimate setting. Nevertheless, she held her own.
Australian rocker Country Barnett more than held her own…she gave a masterclass on what a rock and roll show should look and sound like. She and her band whipped through a 40-minute set that featured several tunes from her upcoming debut album including the soon-to-be released single Pedestrian At Best. She closed her set with crowd fave Avant Gardener.
