Lee Martin – Daydreaming: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
Lee Martin serves up another new song in anticipation of her upcoming album, Gypsy Soul.
The song is Daydreaming and here’s the record company blurb with everything you need to know:
Following a Premiere in Rhythms Magazine Australia for her previous single “What if I Die?”, Christchurch singer-songwriter Lee Martin has returned with her third single in the lead up to her upcoming album Gypsy Soul.
Titled “Daydreaming”, Lee’s latest track sees her dealing with the ideas that we are taught as children and how some of these end up in time to not be true. The song is written from the position of Lee speaking to a young boy, with topics that range from common childhood myths like the Easter Bunny to more indoctrinated things such as religious views.
Lee describes “Daydreaming” as, “My personal favourite song. It has a very strong African vocal section that gives me goosebumps every time I hear it! Tracy-Lee Oliver (back up vocals) absolutely smashes it!” She adds to the meaning, “It also speaks to the way we are taught to grow up, or boys to toughen up before it is natural to do so. I guess in short, it is about the loss of innocence.”
Lee started her training in classical guitar at the age of nine, and a childhood spent listening to greats such as Van Morrison, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen etc. greatly influences her music. She is an old soul with a versatile writing style which allows her to cross genres as she glides easily between Adult/Contemporary, Soul, Country, Folk, and blues all the while maintaining her unique sound.
After 2 singles in the end half of 2021 and “Daydreaming” in 2022, Lee Martin’s debut album “Gypsy Soul” is finally due for release on the 25th of February so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for this upcoming LP!
