Liam Finn & The Come Agains at Tabac
Liam Finn made his public debut with his new band The Come Agains, Wednesday night at Tabac. In addition to Liam on guitar and vocals, the band consists of Joel Mulholland, Jeremy Toy and brother Elroy Finn. Liam and his new band are playing two very intimate gigs at Tabac before they set off to the US for an extended stay that will find them performing at Austin’s South By Southwest conference and Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. Liam and the boys have been holed up in daddy Neil Finn’s Roundhead studio and a new single, The Struggle, has just been released to radio this week. Judging by Wednesday night’s show, the new album is something to look forward to. Liam has stepped away from his quirky loop-driven performances and given his fine new songs the benefit of a full band. The resulting sound was a power-pop extravaganza with the emphasis on power. Liam was very engaged and animated, occasionally moving over to an extra drum kit to have a few whacks himself. While most of the set consisted of Liam’s own tunes, both old and new, he treated the audience to a mid-set mini-Beatles medley taken from Abbey Road…Mean Mr. Mustard, Polythene Pam and She Came in Through The Bathroom Window. A good time was had by all and anticipation is running high to hear the completed album, hopefully out by June.

really looking forward to hearing how his stuff is evolving. I thought the solo set-up he had was starting to become a tad predictable though still highly entertaining…
