Logan – Huh: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Logan is a Kiwi living in Queensland and here is his new song, Huh. Yes, you heard right. And there’s more on the way!

LoganThe definition of ‘charisma’ in the dictionary should be cut, crumpled, and thrown out the window. Instead, insert a photo of Logan John Priest, aka Logan, a 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, dancer and producer from Southeast Queensland.

Today, Logan shares his head-bopping second single ‘Huh’ alongside the announcement he’s signed deals with Ivy League/Mushroom (The Teskey Brothers, The Rubens, The Beths, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever), FRNDS MGMT (DMA’S, Alison Wonderland, Pacific Avenue) and Village Sounds (Vance Joy, MAY-A, Courtney Barnett).

“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Logan. He is the full package with the songs, voice, charisma, vision and moves to stand out on the global stage. Together with FRNDS and Village, we can’t wait to bring everyone along for the ride.”

Kiwi-born and Aussie-raised, Logan’s captivating presence and infectious charm is imprinted all over his music. When you hear it for the first time, it’s like it’s lived in your playlists for years; like your all-time favourite song and latest obsession rolled into one. Logan’s ongoing relationship to dance has also unmistakably informed his approach to music; from first listen you can hear the kid is singing with his hips.

Drawing influence from a spread of iconic musicians that came before him – legacy idols Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis and Mick Jagger, plus more modern leaders, from Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna, to Pharrell, Lily Allen and John Mayer – Logan presents a sound that is unique, exciting, and constantly evolving.

Entirely self-produced, rock-infused pop jam ‘Huh’ was borne in the core of his consciousness; it’s quintessential Logan. Experimental and playful, whirring with vintage flair, Logan was inspired by the infectious charm of A$AP Rocky’s music, “I wanted to have a Rocky moment.”

“‘Huh’ is a collage of things that I love – sneakers, clothes, romance, dancing, Japan & more – with a delivery of confidence & playfulness. I always wanted to use the adlib ‘huh’ in a song, I took it one maybe two steps too far and named the song after it, so if ever you were wondering how the song is pronounced – you’ve just got to listen to find out.”

Today’s release is the staggering follow up to Logan’s jaw-dropping debut single
Stop & Stare’, released last month to glowing acclaim from industry and fans alike. The track was the cover of Spotify’s Local Noise, plus added to Fresh Finds US (1.1mil followers), Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Front Left, Indie Arrivals and come thru, and MTV. triple j Home & Hosed opened with ‘Stop & Stare’ on the day of its release, with presenter Ash McGregor calling it a “cheeky, driven, colourful debut” with his music video dance moves “up there with Elvis”.

The self-made debut is packed with playful infatuation; an ode to all-encompassing young love, written in peak honeymoon-phase feels, that came together in one take. A rearranged guitar line he intended to make a hip-hop beat with, fused instead with a driving drum beat, Logan grabbed a mic and ad-libbed the entire song in just one take, without ever writing down lyrics. “It’s like I had tunnel vision, it just flowed out of me.” Logan used this same, intensely visual approach in the self-directed, one-shot accompanying video.

Logan

As ambitious as he is talented – dreams already firmly set on playing the fear-inducing Madison Square Garden and Wembley Stadium – Logan was determined to work with FRNDS MGMT team Leon Rogovoy (SYD) and Rudy Udovich (NYC), who manage one of his favourite bands, DMA’S.

While they knew there was potential, the duo gave honest feedback – the songs “weren’t quite there yet” – but Logan’s rich wealth of musical inspirations had perked their ears. “We were like, hang on, this kid is listening to such incredible and diverse artists. We told him not to be afraid to lean into those influences, that right now he was skirting around them.” With a challenge on the table, Logan’s drive, artistry, and eager-to-prove-himself nature saw him disappear for 10 months – “we honestly didn’t think we’d hear from him again”.

When he returned with ‘Stop & Stare’, Rogovoy and Udovich fell off their chairs.

FRNDS MGMT, Ivy League and Village Sounds all signed Logan after their first spin of ‘Stop & Stare’, without him ever having played a live show.

Logan will debut his live set in support of Pacific Avenue at Brisbane’s The Triffid on Friday 5 August and Saturday 6 August, before playing a headline show at Gold Coast’s Mo’s Desert Clubhouse on Friday 25 August. Logan has also just been announced for Spilt Milk Gold Coast and BIGSOUND.

Bursting with undeniable talent, cheekiness, and a magnetic personality, Logan is sure to make a lasting impact on the music world – just like his idols before him.
