Lucy Munro – This Would Be A Love Love: New Song Of The Day
Lucy Munro releases her second single, This Would Be A Love Song. The Christchurch-based songwriter has a debut album on the way later this year.
Here’s what Lucy has sent us about her and her music:
‘This Would Be A Love Song’ is Lucy Munro’s second single release. This single is a part of her debut album which will be released later this year. Lucy worked with producer/engineer Rory Duncan on this project, commuting to and from Auckland since 2022, to record the album in sessions and work on other projects such as music videos and collaborations with notable artists, including local Auckland band, Pat’s Cave.
‘This Would Be A Love Song’ is an exhilarating and heartfelt song that takes listeners on a journey through the sadness, anger and acceptance that come as a part of healing from an unhealthy relationship. Listeners so far have described the song as “the perfect song to scream in the car” due to its catchy melody and empowering lyrics.
Although Lucy Munro has had success creating acoustic indie ballads, her extensive vocal range and techniques allow her to succeed in many different genres, which is one of the things that sets Lucy Munro apart as an artist in the modern music industry. ‘This Would Be A Love Song’ takes inspiration from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey and Leith Ross, with Munro being likened to many of these artists.
Lucy Munro is a songwriter from Ōtautahi, Christchurch, New Zealand. Her music takes influence from pop; especially indie and alternative pop genres, however, each song on her upcoming album has its own independent style. Her lyrics take listeners on raw and emotional journeys, with Lucy being unafraid of breaking the societal norms of what is ‘appropriate’ to be written in the mainstream music industry.
Her choir background can be found within the roots of her musical composition, using tight harmonies and classic chordal and melodic movement to create groundbreaking art, with her own unique sound. This gives space for her poetic lyrics to shine through, allowing viewers to think and take a personal interpretation most relevant to them.
In 2023, Lucy has already had success, releasing her first single ‘Knotless (Imperfection)’ in late March, with thousands of listens globally. She has a full release schedule for the upcoming months, with a debut album being released later this year.
She intends to begin playing live shows now that she has written a large discography and started releasing. Lucy is active on social media, using Instagram and Tiktok to successfully interact with her audience, with one of her videos gaining over 200,000 views and 50,000 likes. She is looking forward to continuing this process and using these platforms to expose her music to a larger audience. Lucy Munro is a name to keep an eye out for in the music scene, with the best yet to come.
