Maxine Funke – River Said: New Song Of The Day

Maxine Funke has just released River Said, the title track to her 5th album, which has also just been released. Happy NZ Music Month!

Otago musician Maxine Funke releases her fifth album River Said, the magnificent follow up to last year’s Pieces Of Driftwood compilation, which pieced together out-of-print singles and unreleased material by the cult Aotearoa singer-songwriter, conceived as an introduction to a hermetic, intimate, home-recorded musical world.

The new album by Maxine Funke divides into two halves – the first side a perfect suite of the kind of beautifully constructed songs that she has become known for; acutely observed vignettes framing her voice with a minimal backing of guitar and organ. The second side takes off on a different flight entirely: two dreamy long-form pieces built on a framework of cello, field recordings and delay.
