Mel Parsons – Brick By Brick: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
Up for an impressive three awards at this year’s AMAs, Mel Parsons is keeping her foot to the floor with the release of another new single Brick by Brick, out now.
Here is the blurb with more:
A slight departure from Mel’s often dark and haunting signature indie-folk sound, upbeat Brick by Brick showcases the award-winning artist’s knack for writing catchy and compelling songs, no matter the mood.

“I guess I’m an eternal optimist, despite the sometimes-somber vibe of my particular brand of indie-folk,” says Mel.
Mel adds: “Broadly speaking Brick by Brick is a reminder to myself to just start the thing. I’m a procrastinator and often get overwhelmed with possibilities, but I’ve worked out that if I keep showing up even when I’m hating it, something will usually materialise.”
Brick by Brick is accompanied by a music video made in Parsons’ Lyttelton backyard, filmed and edited by Christchurch-based Adam Hogan of LORE Films.
“Mostly I run screaming from literal representation of anything in a music video, but for this one it felt like the obvious direction. Straightforward to shoot and visually pleasing, we threw some bricks around and had some fun with it.”
Brick by Brick follows the recent release of Mel’s first single of 2025, ‘Post High Slide’, which debuted on Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ and featured on 95bFM, RDU and the SRN top 10.
Both ‘Brick by Brick’ and ‘Post High Slide’ were produced and engineered by long-time collaborator Josh Logan, who also worked with Mel on her critically-acclaimed 2024 album, SABOTAGE, which contained the songs ‘Offer Down’, ‘Little Sadness’ and ‘5432’.
SABOTAGE debuted at #2 on the Official Top 20 NZ Albums Chart and was a finalist at this year’s Taite Music Prize and has earned three nominations – Album of the Year, Best Folk Artist and Best Album Artwork (by Emma Hercus) – at the Aotearoa Music Awards, which will be held in late May.
The new music coincides with Mel’s upcoming seven-date POST HIGH SLIDE – NZ and Australian tour, which kicks off at San Fran in Wellington on Sunday M
