New Music Friday: 13th Floor New Album Picks: April 18, 2025
A good New Music Friday to you! And we’ve got the good new music to go with your holiday weekend…five new releases including new music from Taylor Rae, Peter Holsapple and Emma Dilemma.
The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda picks these five new releases for your consideration:
- Julien Baker & Torres – Send A Prayer My Way (Matador) Are they the New Outlaws? Listen and judge for yourself…Julien Baker (boygenius) and Torres (Mackenzie Scott) team up to make a country album. Send a Prayer My Way is their first album written and performed together, but has been a shared idea between the two artists dating as far back as 2016. 2. Peter Holsapple – The Face Of 68 (Label 51) What does turning 68 sound like? Pretty darn good if you’re Peter Holsapple. The dB/Continental Drifter and mainstay of the North Carolina music scene teams up with producer Don Dixon and the result is as fine a collection of power pop/rock as you’re gonna hear in 2025. Watch the 13th Floor MusicTalk interview with Peter Holsapple to find out more.
3. Taylor Rae – The Void (Missing Piece) Ooooh, we’re liking this one here at 13th Floor. The second album by the Austin-based singer-songwriter. “The main theme is introspection,” Rae says. “The past four years have been such a trying time with constant change. Sometimes it felt like I was staring into the void, and I decided to document the moment by writing these songs.” Click here to read the 13th Floor album review. We hope to talk to Taylor soon…so check back!
4. Emma Dilemma – Ouch My Head Hurts EP (Ten Years Ltd) A “surprise” EP from the Christchurch native. Co-produced with The Response, Emma…fresh from fronting a reunited Tadpole…release 5 tracks…two of them brand new, clearing the way for whatever she has planned for the rest of 2025. Watch for a 13th Floor MusicTalk Interview coming very soon!
5. Neither Do I – We’re Not Known For Anything (self) Auckland-based singer-songwriter Danny Ebdale is the driving force behind the record and he tells us, “There are two sides to this coin – keep your self/ego small enough to remain humble, or stay small because that’s how you’ve grown to feel? There’s a fine line between the two. For me, at least. And maybe someone out there. This concept is all over this album, but it’s not the only theme – lots of metaphors and fictional wordplay, but about 75% non-fiction if you spend time to unpack it. It’s my most adventurous and mature album yet. It’s my first proper album in 5 years and I‘m really proud of it.”
