New Music Friday: 13th Floor New Album Picks: March 28, 2025
Its New Music Friday here at The 13th Floor and we’ve got something for everyone with new releases by Alison Krauss, Alien Weaponry, Dean Wareham and more!
The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda picks these five new releases for your consideration:
Dean Wareham – That’s The Price Of Loving Me (Carpark) Dean Wareham is back with this fourth solo LP – and his first for Carpark. That’s the Price of Loving Me is his first album with producer Kramer since Galaxie 500’s This Is Our Music in 1990. “Kramer insisted that I play all the guitars on this record,” says Dean, “and we worked quickly. Kramer believes that two takes yield more treasure than twenty, and I tend to agree.” Click here to read the 13th Floor Album Review.
2. Alison Krauss & Union Station – Arcadia (Down The Road) Their first new album in 14 years! Arcadia is a set of ten songs that transcend time, reveal beautiful and tragic truths, and reaffirm why the group remains one of the most influential, widely celebrated acts of the past four decades. “Usually, I find something that’s a first song, and then things fall into place,” says Alison Krauss. “That song was ‘Looks Like The End Of The Road.’ Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive – and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.” Click here to hear more from Alison Krauss as she talks to The 13th Floor about making Arcadia.
3. Alien Weaponry – Te Rā (Napalm) New Zealand’s Alien Weaponry expand on their hallmark messages of cultural, societal and environmental resilience while delivering their most massive-sounding, focused musical output ever. In the hands of veteran producer/mixer Josh Wilbur, Te Rā’s gnashing blend of groove, nu, math and thrash metal shines with anthemic choruses. 4. Lucy Dacus – Forever Is A Feeling (Geffen) This is the 4th solo album for the boygenius and the first for Geffen. Lucy’s new label says, “The lushness of the album’s sound is matched by a new frankness in Dacus’s approach to sexuality and romance… The sex in ‘Ankles‘ remains fantasy — as in many of the songs, love doesn’t come easy, desire has to be resisted — but the willingness to talk about it shows a new forthrightness, a new and brave willingness to express desire. 5. Perfume Genius – Glory (Matador) We go from a boygenius to Perfume Genius...aka Mike Hadreas. Glory was produced by his longtime producer Blake Mills and was co-written with Hadreas’ partner Alan Wyffels. The record also has guitarists Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) and Greg Uhlmann, drummers Tim Carr and Jim Keltner, and bassist Pat Kelly, plus a special appearance from Aldous Harding on the second track, “No Front Teeth.”
